Over 30 Years of Experience In Helping Accident Victims

Vehicle accident deaths increased in 2015

With gas prices lower than in recent years, Americans are driving more. So, it's no surprise that we've seen vehicle accident deaths increase in 2015 from 2014. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), about 35,000 people died in traffic accidents last year for an increase of 7.7 percent.

The NHTSA statistics covered the increase of fatalities involving cars, trucks and motorcycles. Not mentioned are the numbers of non-fatal injuries. Even with government-mandated safety features built into new cars, drivers are at risk for serious or fatal injuries in an accident. These odds increase if drivers are distracted, angry, impaired by alcohol or drugs, or speeding.

Should you find yourself a victim, and your injuries and damages are greater than the settlement the other driver's insurance may offer - if they make an offer - working with a lawyer may be a good choice.

Why should you contact a lawyer after an accident?

If the cause is in dispute. If the other driver denies responsibility, you can find yourself battling a team of insurance lawyers skilled at denying claims or convincing a judge that you can't prove their policyholder's fault. An experienced auto accident lawyer knows how to face off with insurance lawyers and move your claim forward.

If you suffered severe injuries or lost a loved one. When injuries cause you to miss work or result in disability, you just can't afford to accept the minimal amounts the insurance company is likely to offer. If a family member died in the crash, your burden is even higher. While monetary compensation can't bring back your loved one, if he/she was the primary provider, you need to recover sufficient compensation for past, current and future losses caused by the accident.

If the case goes to trial. Facing the insurance company's lawyers in court is not something to handle on your own. Having an attorney on your side typically increases your chance of success.

Be safe and smart

Do your part to avoid adding to the statistics. Keep your eyes open, stay alert on the road and be a courteous driver. But if another drivers' negligence causes an accident, speak with an attorney to learn how the law may apply to your case.
